NYSED Office of Early Learning Video Series: A Guide for Educators Serving Children in Prek - 2nd Grade

The NYSED values play as an instructional strategy in the early childhood classroom.  The video series includes examples of purposeful, play-based instructional strategies that assist children in developing critical foundational skills. In the early grades, it is particularly important for educators to recognize and provide a balance between individual and group needs, active and quiet times, teacher-directed and child-selected activities, and English and home language development.

New York State Prekindergarten Learning Standards: A Resource for School Success

This is the updated version of the New York State Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core Learning Standards, published in 2012.  This resource was developed by the New York State Education Department’s Offices of Early Learning and Curriculum and Instruction.  It is intended to be used as a reference tool by teachers, specialists, and administrators working with students who are in a four-year-old prekindergarten program.

By promoting and investing in child care, we know it can improve women’s participation in the workforce and narrow the gender wage gap.”

Created by Prevent Child Abuse New York and the Early Care & Learning Council, the brief identifies the benefits of bridging the connection between the Protective Factors and the Pyramid Model. Implemented together, training increase chid care providers' awareness, understanding, and compassion while providing scientifically-based information and strategies that will strengthen providers' ability to build resilience in children.

  3. Share the Early Care and Educational Resources in My Community chart with parents in temporary housing.
